Description

‘Bull with Spears’ depicts the cruel practice of Spanish Bullfighting where the bull is taunted and stabbed with various swords until dragged from the ring, often still alive.

Text in painting reads:

$627.95, Estoque – Used to kill the bull with a thrust to the heart as the finale, over 50 000 bulls killed in bullfights in Europe alone every year.

$627.95, Descabello – Used to cut the spinal cord for a quicker death if the bull survives the Estoque, the bull’s ears and/or tail are cut off with a knife for the Matador as a trophy.

$177.95, Puntilla – Used to further pierce the spinal cord if the bull still lives, often a bull is dragged by its horns by mules out of the ring, mortally wounded, paralysed, but still alive.
